Russia’s Minimal Techno traditionally sounded different from its Western European and American counterparts. Modul’s new 12” “Pioneers EP” for the Duesseldorf-based Level Records imprint lacks American Minimal’s invincibility and straightforwardness as much as the nerdy, druggy or avantgarde-borne quirkyness many European interpretations of Techno show. Modul substitutes these prominent attributes with a baroque synthetical deepness fueled by slick, modern beat skeletons and in doing so makes a welcome addition instead of a counterdraft.
